3D CAD Solid Model of Mechanical Assembly

Product Design Services:

We are a full service design resource that is focused on customer satisfaction. From early development to product and part improvement, Versadyne has the services and capabilities to support your project.

Our staff has a unique artistic and creative eye that enables us to design parts and assemblies in ways others cannot imagine. We visualize the working elements that make up a product, then create these elements using CAD tools. From this, we produce a set of 3D CAD models and 2D drawings that can be used by manufacturers worldwide.

As a design progresses, our extensive in-house prototyping capabilities can generate prototypes for ‘form, fit, and function’ testing, aesthetics approval, presentation models or functional models for salesman.

3D CAD Solid Modeling vs. 3D Modeling

CAD is a term usually used in the context of engineering. CAD software is generally used to design functional parts and assemblies. This is in contrast to 3D modeling software that’s used to create artistic models like sculptures and characters.

The differing goals between artistic and CAD 3D modeling result in a fundamental difference in the way the software works. Artistic 3D modeling software is free form and allows the artist to create and modify shapes, points, and faces without necessarily defining any parameters. The artist can just sculpt the model based on how he thinks it should look.

3D CAD software is parametric, which means that every shape is defined with specific parameters (or dimensions). The ability to modify existing parameters is probably the most important function of CAD software. Because every feature your create is definied by parameters, those parameters can be modified to change the model

Mechanical Assembly

About Reverse Engineering

Reverse engineering uses physical measurement on an existing product’s dimensions, geometry and features. After measurements are made, attributes of the object must be taken. Every feature, material, texture, etc. must be recorded. These measurements are collected and inputted to generate a 3D CAD solid model or 2D CAD drawing.

The reverse engineering of a part or product typically results in a detailed digital 3D model or digital 3D assembly which can be used to improve the product’s design as well functionality.

Our Reverse Engineering Service

We offer a wide range of reverse engineering services to all size companies.  Our team of experienced designers have decades of manufacturing experience.  Allowing us to apply our manufacturing experience in our hands-on approach to reverse engineering.

Our client provides the physical components or parts for our team’s review.  We measure and collect data to our systems.  Using this data, our team can generate a 3D CAD model, 2D CAD data, 3D digital renderings, output a prototype model, etc. as well as move on to the next step such as design updates and modifications or soft tooling.

We can help you get the best out of your reverse engineering efforts.

Example Applications

  • Manufacturing tooling at ‘end of life’ with no existing 2D or 3D documentation of the part(s) which the tool generated.
  • Update of current design is needed. However, existing documentation does not reflect “on the fly” changes made to the product over the years.
  • Tooling no longer exists.  Documentation does not exist. However, you do have a part in hand.
  • Competitor’s product and your product have some design over lap which you need to document for review by your patent attorney.

Utilizing existing part(s), a 3D CAD model is created to accurately reflect the existing design.  This allows quick easy updates or improvements to the design.  A rapid prototype is then generated from the 3D CAD to allow you to approve the design and obtain market feedback.

3D Laser Scanning Services

3D scanning provide fast, accurate results - reducing cost and time to market.

About 3D Laser Scanning

3D laser scanning is a non-contact, non-destructive technology that digitally captures the geometry of a physical object using a laser light.  This process generates what is called a “point cloud” of data from the surface of the object.

After the huge point cloud files are created, they are registered and merged into one three-dimensional representation of the object and post-processed with various software packages suitable for a specific application.

This process supplies you with a complete digital representation of your part to be used for reverse engineering or quality inspection.

Example Applications

  • Update of current design is needed, however, existing documentation does not reflect “on the fly” changes made to the product over the years.
  • Tooling no longer exists.  Documentation does not exist. However, you do have a part in hand.
  • Inspection of parts generated from new tooling.
  • Competitor’s product and your product have some design over lap which you need to document for review by your patent attorney.

Utilizing existing part(s), a 3D CAD solid model can be created from the “point cloud” data to accurately reflect the existing design as well as allow some updates and improvements to the design.  A rapid prototype can be generated from the 3D CAD solid model to allow you to approve the design as well as obtain market feedback.

3D Digital Rendering

3D Rendering Explained

3D Rendering produces a 2D digital image or “picture” based on 3D digital data.  The data used is created by utilizing CAD software such as solidworks, laser scanning hardware/software, or other digital means such as adobe illustrator.  The image can be photo-realistic like the picture to the left or it can be non-realistic like on the right.

The Photo-realistic rendering process creates a three dimensional scene as if a picture was taken from a particular location and/or perspective.  Features such as realistic lighting, shadows, colors, different textures, and some optical effects like the refraction of light or blurring the screen can be added to the simulation to create amazing images.

A realistic image could be an architectural interior that looks like a photograph, a product-design image such as a food container, or a style of shoe.  On the other hand, we can create a non-realistic image such as an outline type diagram or a cartoon like image with a traditional 2D style.  Technically, we can visualize anything you can imagine.

2D CAD DRAWINGS

Drawings with Full Dimensionality

About 2D CAD Drawings

Computer Aided Design or CAD has been around since the first computers were used in the 1970s. Initially, it was a way to reproduce and ultimately replace manual drafting by hand, but soon the cost benefits of CAD began to become apparent. The benefit of CAD systems over manual drafting are the competencies we take for granted from CAD systems today; automated generation of the cost of materials, increased accuracy of designs, greater visualization with 3D representations amongst many others.

Benefits of Using CAD

  • Developing higher quality, more accurate and responsive designs
  • Visualizing the end product and improving collaboration.
  • Exploration of design options for cost efficiency and usability.
  • Making more informed decisions.
  • Ease of design modifications.

We offer 2D CAD drafting service for various industry like mechanical engineering, manufacturing, fabrications, design, consultation, etc. Our experienced team can create 2D CAD drawings that cover all areas such as mechanical parts, auto parts, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, mechanical shop drawings, etc.
